Why People Rehome Their Small Crossbreed

Mixed-breed dogs are just as loved, and just as deserving of a careful rehoming.

🏠 Moving or Housing Changes

Whether it's a rental that doesn't allow pets, a body corporate rule change, or downsizing to a smaller property β€” housing changes are one of the most common reasons people contact us, regardless of breed.

πŸ’° Financial Pressure

Vet bills, food, grooming β€” the costs add up. If you're struggling to afford your dog's care, rehoming to a family who can isn't failure. It's putting your dog's wellbeing first.

πŸ‘Ά Family Changes

A new baby, a divorce, an elderly parent moving in β€” family dynamics shift in ways you can't predict. Sometimes the kindest thing for your dog is a home where the energy and routine suit them better.

✈️ Emigrating

Many SA families leave beloved mixed-breed dogs behind when moving abroad. We've helped countless families through this transition β€” finding loving homes for all kinds of small crossbreeds.

Your Crossbreed Deserves the Same Care

Every dog is an individual, regardless of their pedigree. We don't judge a dog by their mix β€” we assess their personality, their needs, and what kind of home would make them happy. Some of the most loving, loyal dogs we've rehomed have been crossbreeds of uncertain origin.

Our process is the same: get to know your dog, screen families carefully, present you with the best match, and make the transition as smooth as possible. No kennels, no cages, no shelter stays. Just a dignified, home-to-home transition for your unique companion.

Crossbreed Rehoming Questions

πŸ• I don't know what my dog is mixed with β€” can you still help?

Absolutely. We don't need a DNA test β€” we need to know your dog's size, temperament, health, and personality. That's what matters for finding the right home.

πŸ“ My dog is nearly 15kg β€” is that OK?

15kg is our upper limit, but we assess each dog individually. If your dog is close to 15kg with a small-breed temperament, we can often help. It's worth contacting us to discuss.

🩺 My crossbreed has health issues β€” will you still take them?

Yes. We've rehomed dogs with chronic conditions, mobility issues, and ongoing medical needs. The key is being honest about the health situation so we can find a prepared adopter.

❓ Not sure if your breed qualifies?

If you're unsure whether we can help, just reach out. We'll ask about your dog's size, temperament, and situation. Even if we can't help directly, we'll point you to a rescue that can. No harm in asking.
